Post-Doctoral Researcher

ABOUT

My name is Sree Venigalla. I’m a postdoc in Pacak lab. I’m originally from India and graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 2021 earning a Ph.D. in Molecular Science and Nanotechnology with a concentration in Cell and Molecular Biology. I joined Pacak lab in September 2021. My current research focuses on developing canine induced pluripotent stem cell (ciPSCs) derived cardiomyocytes for CRISPR gene therapy based approach for treatment of inherited Titin mutations in Dobermans. I also work on human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes and their impact on mitochondrial biogenesis and function between healthy and BARTH disease.

RESEARCH

I am investigating the effects of AAV-TAFAZZIN on BTHS patient-derived iPSC-cardiomyocytes. I am also developing 3D engineered contractile heart and skeletal muscle models using human patient-derived iPSC-cardiomyocytes and myoblasts to further develop gene and drug-based therapeutics. My other focus involves the development and optimization of methods to reprogram blood-derived cells into iPSCs in companion animals to develop integration-free cell models for studying and treating genetic disorders.
